Autumn has a certain lingering perfume;
a crisp chill that creeps into the air,
holding promises of carnation cheeks,
soul-warming soup, and soft, woolen sweaters.
There's a subtle yet delicious shift in energy,
and a quiet and patient sort of charm.
Stepping outside on that first chilly day,
I can already taste the smoke and pumpkin;
already see the warm hues of gold-laden branches;
already hear the game-day cheers and crackle of dry leaves underfoot....

I can already breathe the scent of autumn.

A revised version of my poem "A Taste of Autumn" based on a generous critique by SilverInkblot (Thank you so much!)
I plan to read this at my school's poetry slam tomorrow night!

UPDATE: The upper level creative writing class liked this when I shared it, and they featured it in my school's literary magazine! :D
